Breonna Loftin

Breonna Nichole Loftin
December 29, 2006 - August 17, 2011
Just before Breonna passed away, she had been in the care of her mother, Amanda Guidry, and Jason Delacerda. She passed away at the hospital due to injuries she received while she was in her care. Her body had so many burn marks and bruises that it was obvious that she had been abused over a long period of time. There were also signs that she had been sexually abused.
Breonna's cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma. It was discovered later that Jason would often abuse Breonna and Amanda wouldn't do anything to make him stop. After Breonna's death, witnesses told stories about seeing Jason make Breonna stand on water bottle caps while he hit her head. He was also allowed to frequently spank her, and he had thrown her across the room at one point too.
Amanda was not allowed to go to Breonna's funeral. Both Amanda and Jason were indicted on capital murder, though they were originally charged with injury to a child. I am unable to find more information about their trials at the time this is posted.

Aidan Pankey

Aidan Lucas Pankey
October 14, 2002 - June 12, 2013
Aidan was a happy little boy who loved nothing more than his pet rat. He wanted to purchase another rat to be a companion to his first rat. His grandmother agreed to get him another one, and they went to the store, "Petco", to purchase the next rat. Aidan was very happy to have two rats now, and he named the new one, "Alex".
Aidan enjoyed playing with his new rat, but soon after he bought it, he woke up complaining of stomach pains. He also had a fever. He was very lethargic and pale, and his family noted that he could barely even walk. He was quickly taken to the hospital where he was treated, but he passed away within just hours of being there.
A medical examiner determined that Aidan had passed away due to streptobacillus moniliformis, which is commonly known as rat-bite fever. His family filed a lawsuit against Petco because Petco had failed to be sure that the rats they were selling were healthy and free from diseases that could harm anybody they were sold to.
The rat that Aidan's grandmother had purchased for him appeared to be a regular, healthy rat. People can contract rat-bite fever from bites or scratches from infected rodents. It can also be contracted by eating or drinking foods or drinks contaminated with the bacteria. It can not be spread from human to human, however.

Savannah Pioch

Savannah Rose Pioch
November 27, 2003 - September 19, 2008
Savannah's parents, Danny Pioch and Melissa Bruce, had divorced. At the time of Savannah's death, she was in the care of Melissa and Melissa's husband, Scott Bruce. First responders were called to the home due to a report of a child not breathing. When Savannah was found, she had been dead for some time. She had been beaten and bound inside a sleeping bag, and then left by her mother and step-father.
Melissa and Scott were held responsible for Savannah's death because they did not seek medical attention for her after she had been severely beaten. They were also held accountable because she had been confined inside of a sleeping bag. It is believed that Savannah was hit by her mother and step-father in her head and her face, which caused her to fall down and further injure her head.
After Savannah was beaten, Scott bound her ankles and wrists. and tied her in the sleeping bag. It is thought that Savannah's mother helped him do this. She was left in the sleeping bag in her room for six days. Savannah's father had lost custody of Savannah and her six year old brother due to domestic violence allegations. Savannah's father was concerned for the welfare of his children because Melissa acted like she didn't want to care for them anymore. She had even said she didn't want Savannah anymore and that she wanted her father to take her, but she would quickly change her mind and keep Savannah anyway.
During visitations with their father, neither Savannah nor her brother gave any clear indication that something was seriously wrong in their home, but when he asked if everything was okay, they would put their heads down and go silent. At the time of Savannah's death, Danny had not seen his children for a couple of months.
Melissa received the maximum twenty year sentence. She plead guilty to neglect of a child. Scott plead guilty and agreed to the forty-five year prison sentence he was given for his part in Savannah's abuse and death.

Annastasia Dlugoss

Annastasia Abbigail Dlugoss
May 25, 2009 - April 1, 2011
Annastasia was twenty-two months old when she passed away due to Bronchopneumonia. She passed away less than just three hours after contracting it. She had been asleep in bed with her four year old sister when she was found not breathing. She was stiff and her face had turned blue. She was pronounced deceased at 9:05 a.m. on April 1, 2011.

Adaleigh Buchanan

Adaleigh Elizabeth Buchanan
August 11, 2005 - December 4, 2009
Adaleigh was four years old when she passed away. She was a happy and healthy little girl, but one day, December 2, two days before Adaleigh passed away, her mother found her having a seizure. The ambulance came and took Adaleigh to a hospital. She was later transferred to another hospital that would be able to treat her better.
When she finally made it to the pediatric ICU, the doctors quickly informed her family that Adaleigh was not breathing on her own and she was not responsive. They suspected that Adaleigh would not live through this. It was discovered that Adaleigh had a condition called Cerebral AVM, which is basically a tangle of blood vessels in her brain. It's a birth defect.
The doctors told Adaleigh's family that the only way she even had a chance of surviving was immediately operating on her. Her family immediately agreed. Adaleigh was removed from all the sedation, pain medication, and the drug-induced coma. The doctors tried to see if her brain would respond to anything at all, but it wouldn't.
Adaleigh's parents had to say goodbye to Adaleigh. Her mother, father, and step-mother agreed that Adaleigh should be an organ donor. They knew that Adaleigh was always a generous and loving little girl, and that she would have wanted to help others. Her kidneys have helped a two year old and a seventeen year old. Her eyes helped two people, and a girl named Katie Esterling received her liver.

Priscilla Hernandez

Priscilla Rose Hernandez
April 13, 2009 - December 3, 2011
Priscilla lived and her four year old sibling lived with her mother. Priscilla and her sibling were both left in the care of their mother's boyfriend, David Leonardo. On that day, first responders were called to the home to find Priscilla. She was unconscious and not breathing when they arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Priscilla was brought to the coroner so that she could be properly examined. It was soon apparent that Priscilla had injuries caused by being abused. Her cause of death was ruled to be blunt force trauma. David was arrested and charged with murder. He initially plead not guilty. Priscilla's father had been trying to see her for weeks before her death, but his visits were always postponed by her mother.
Later, David plead guilty to one count of second degree murder. He confessed that he had hit Priscilla in her abdomen because he was angry. Police did say that there was no evidence that Priscilla had been abused for a long period of time before she passed away.

Emma Thompson

Emma Catherine Grace Thompson
March 29, 2005 - June 27, 2009
Emma lived with her mother, Abigail Young, and her mother's boyfriend, Lucas Coe. Lucas had been investigated three times for cases involving the children of a previous girlfriend, and a case was opened for Emma too after it was discovered that tested positive for genital herpes. Even though it was discovered that Emma had a sexually transmitted disease, she was not removed from the home.
Emma had not been removed because there had been no physical signs of her having been sexually abused, and, very rarely, the disease can be transmitted in a non-sexual way. Child protective services, at the time, had not known that Lucas had been investigated for crimes against other children before.
When Abigail discovered that Emma had a serious head injury, instead of calling 911 to get help for Emma, Abigail took her to the hospital in her own car. Shortly after Abigail left with Emma on her way to the hospital, Lucas left the house with his own daughter.
Abigail stopped the car on the way to the hospital because she discovered that Emma had passed out in the back seat. Only then did she call 911. First responders rushed to the car, but when they arrived, Emma had apparently already passed away. They rushed her to the hospital anyway, and she was pronounced dead.
Abigail spoke to investigators and told them that Emma had fallen off a toilet and hurt her head, causing her to crack her skull and split her lip. She said that she suspected that Emma had had a diabetic seizure. She then talked about how Emma had a lot of bruises on her due to the medical work that was done to try and save her.
Abigail also expressed to the investigators the Lucas was a good man who would never hurt anybody, especially a child. She also told them that there was nothing to see at her house because she had cleaned up the bathroom before taking Emma to go to the hospital. She told them that she had bleached the bathroom. Meanwhile, it was discovered that Emma had over eighty bruises, trauma to her stomach, head lacerations, a skull fracture, and bleeding from her genitals, which were torn.
Lucas was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for abusing, raping, and killing Emma. Emma's mother, Abigail, was sentenced to twenty years in prison for failing to protect Emma from being abused.

Hailey Owens

Hailey Marie Owens
August 18, 2003 - February 18, 2014
Hailey Owens went missing on her way home from school. She was walking home when a man named Craig Wood pulled up his car next to her and asked her for directions. Neighbors then saw Craig come out of his truck and force Hailey inside before driving away. Neighbors later reported that the truck had circled around where Hailey was walking a few times before finally stopping.
When one neighbor, Carlos Edwards, saw the man in the truck take Hailey and force her inside before driving away, he ran after the truck to get the license plate number while his wife called 911. Police matched the license plate number to Craig's truck and arrested him at his home around three hours after he had kidnapped Hailey.
The police immediately searched Craig's home. They could smell bleach in the basement, and Hailey's body was later discovered in two garbage bags inside a storage container inside the home. She had been shot in her head. An examination of Hailey's body showed that she had also been sexually assaulted before her death.
Craig has yet to go to trial at the time this is published, but he has been charged with kidnapping, raping, and killing Hailey.

Azaria Johnson

Azaria Therese Johnson
October 9, 2011 - April 15, 2013
Azaria passed away after paramedics responded to a call about a child who needed medical help. Why they arrived on the scene, the child's home, they discovered that the child, Azaria, had already passed away. At the time Azaria passed away, she was in the care of her mother's boyfriend, Willie Stone.
Willie was watching Azaria while her mother was at work. Willie said that when he tried to wake Azaria up to dress her, she wouldn't respond to him at all. A coroner ruled that Azaria's death was caused by blunt force trauma to her head. Willie was brought in for questioning, and eventually admitted that he had hit Azaria.
Willie was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison after taking a plea deal. It was discovered that Willie had abused Azaria on previous occasions too, and this only became clear to Azaria's mother after Azaria passed away and she educated herself on child abuse.
